Route description
The 55K is an exciting series of ups and downs among woods, rocks and unspoiled scenery. It is the Dolomite landscapes themselves that give the joy of running, thinking back on the ground already covered while keeping your eyes on the goal.
From the start in Forno (850 m) the route crosses the Pratoront plain and Pralongo (km 3); near the little church it climbs to the Pian dairy hut, where it joins the 103K, and to the Vach pond (km 6). Along the slopes of San Sebastiano, on single track, it reaches Passo Duran (km 11.6, time gate).
Here begins the most technical part of the route: the tough climb to Bivacco Grisetti (2,050 m) and the descent to Malga Grava (km 18.5), the crossing of the slopes of Monte Civetta, Le Palanche (km 23.5) and the steep climb to Malga Pioda. After Rifugio Belvedere (km 30.5) comes the life base at Passo Staulanza (km 37, second time gate).
The undulating trail then runs at the foot of Monte Pelmo to Passo Tamai (km 44); two short but hard climbs lead to the 1,950 m of Monte Punta, a spectacular balcony over all the Zoldo Dolomites. A steady 6 km descent on a military road reaches Casal and, after Bragarezza, Pra, Sommariva and Campo, the finish in Forno, for a total elevation gain of about 3,600 m and 3 ITRA points.
Walk to the shuttle
Runners who withdraw at one of these points must reach the shuttle on foot: for each withdrawal point we show where the bus is waiting and the distance to walk before getting to it.
